Portraits Untold

In recent months I have been participanting in the Portraits Untold live-streamed life drawing events organised by artist Tanya Raabe-Webber. My disability has left me with very little energy for art activities in real time so I am always on the look out for live-streamed art events I can tune into from my home in middleofnowhere Ireland.

As with most of my Disability Arts news I heard about Portraits Untold here on DAO. It’s a wonder for me to do be able to participate in these live events from the comfort of my sofa, at my own pace, with a pot of tea at hand and my drawing tools spread out around me. Although much of my current work is digital I have always loved life drawing and these session have given me a manageable way back into this practice again. I love the chat and tweeting that goes on during the session…it gives me a feeling of being in the space with Tanya and the sitter and connected to other artists who might be tuning in from home.

Through Portraits Untold I have virtually travelled to The Birmingham Museum to draw artist John Akomfah, The National Portrait Gallery to draw Percussionist Dame Evelyn Glennie and last week to Stoke City Football Club to draw National Treasure and part time clown Neil Baldwin. This Saturday, October 1st, I will be getting my red lipstick on to draw anti-drag queen and performance artist David Hoyle at Beningbrogh House in York. The session begins at 10.30 and runs unti 17.00pm. So if, like me, you are sometimes confined to home why not tune in Saturday morning for what promises to be a wonderful finale to the Portraits Untold Events.
